Lagos marina is the only Portuguese marina with the "Euromarina Anchor Award" and holds the European Blue Flag. The marina has a good choice of restaurants and bars, is connected by a footbridge to the historic old town and is within walking distance to the stunning Meia praia beach and a large supermarket.
Lagos has a beautiful bay, surrounded by 6km of fine sandy beach. The bay itself is surrounded by wonderful small coves and beaches - perfect for anchoring, diving, fishing and snorkeling. For centuries winds have blown mariners from all walks of life to Portugal’s welcoming Southern shores. Lagos is a charming old town, steeped in history, it’s cobbled streets, vibrant fish market, traditional tiled buildings, and countless cafes and restaurants to stop for the local favorites - a galão (milky coffee) and a pastel de nata (custard tart), make it a truly Portuguese town. The rural region around Lagos is dotted with fig trees, almond trees and orange groves.
The wild and rugged Costa Vincentina, world renowned for it’s surf beaches and wild flowers is a 30 minute drive away. North of Lagos are the rolling hills of Monchique - a deserted and barren land that time has forgotten. Along the coast the harbors of Portimão, Albufeira, Vilamoura and Olhão all have modern and comfortable marinas which are suitable for overnight berthing. And of course this coast is doted with some of the most famous golf courses in Europe - Palmares, Boa Vista and Parque da Floresta being the closest to Lagos. There are a host of other activities in the area - windsurfing, kite-surfing, horse-riding, mountain biking, luxury health spas, hill-walking, and enough wining and dining options to satiate the largest of appetites.
The climate in this region is idyllic - averaging 14°C in winter and 30°C in summer, with virtually no rainfall between April and October. There are steady North westerly winds all summer and the risk of winds over force 8 Beaufort is 1% in summer and 9% in January - some of the lowest percentages in Europe.
Reliable winds, modern marinas and a coastline of great contrasts make the sun drenched Algarve an ideal destination for all types of boating activities.
